Media Release:

Doco-maker Damiani discovers unsung bush hero, Banjo!

After eleven years of perseverance, award-winning documentary film-maker, Lara Damiani, has released Banjo Morton- The Untold Story; a free, multimedia, interactive website.
Banjo’s trail of inspiration may be much more modest than some of Lara’s previous subjects; such as the Dalai Lama, but his story is just as deserving of the spotlight.

In 1949, Banjo led the first walk-off by Aboriginal stockmen when he and his co-workers left Lake Nash cattle station; demanding pay in wages, not rations. Their actions paid off and they were offered £1 per week. Sixty years later, in 2009, Banjo was back at it. This time, he led a walk-off in opposition to the Federal Government’s “Intervention.” The event gained attention from the United Nations.

A respected Alyawarra leader, Banjo passed in 2019, and trusted Lara to share his story. Lara worked on this labour of love for 8 years before finding enough funds to finish the project. The website aims to both educate and celebrate, and is a valuable and free resource for schools, universities, community groups, historians, and the general public.

Part of the current review of The Australian Curriculum is to strengthen the existing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures cross-curriculum priority; relevant across all learning areas and year levels.

This is the perfect time to spread awareness of Banjo’s efforts and achievements in standing up (or walking off) for his values and culture! Meanwhile, Lara hopes to inspire support to continue her purpose-driven works.

  • Activated Eco

Product Description for Website & Packaging:

ACTIVATED ECO LAUNDRY STRIPS

Can Coconut really clean my clothes? Yes, it can!

Our coconut-based formula is designed to be a safer, kinder alternative to chemical-based detergents. You may have heard coconut oil is a great make-up remover, so of course it can use its cleaning power on your clothes too!

No need to guess, plus less mess!

Activated Eco Laundry Strips take the guesswork out of measuring for your load. There will be no more spilling of liquid or powder, that only adds to the list of chores to do!
The pre-measured strips are simply placed in your machine with your load, or up in the detergent tray… then choose your cycle and wash away!

We recommend:

- 1 sheet per 2.5kg load

- 3 sheets per full, 8kg load

Save time, space and the Earth!

Not only do these smart, little strips allow you to skip a whole step in your laundry process by eliminating the need to measure, they also take up much less space in your laundry cupboard; decreasing clutter. Our package sizes are:

- 100-wash pack - 21cm x 14 cm x 6cm
- 32-wash pack - 21cm x 13cm x 2cm

The 100-wash pack weighs just 265g, compared to a common 5L bottle. This helps save around 90% of transport pollution. Our Activated Eco recyclable packaging adds another element of revolution to a typically waste-generating product. On average, a household of 4 people does between 4 and 7 loads of laundry a week, meaning a 2L bottle will only last 7-10 weeks before it ends up in the bin. Multiply this by the 8.3 million households in Australia, and you get up to 50,000,000 empty bottles going to waste each year!

The time to act is now… do your laundry the Activated Eco way!

Excerpt from short story/script/poem; "Pigeonman:"

tatts_edited.png
tatts_edited.png

Morning arrives.

The man opens his eyes.

Staring him right in the face is a pair so beady and black; they startle the man as he turns on his back.

It is soon discovered, that the birds had formed a ring.

The man is surrounded; center stage; center of circle;
why he should get up and sing!

Instead, the birds do; and the man comes to his feet.

He stomps and shoos.

Most birds remain.

A shadow creeps from stage left to stage right.

The man traces it to a creature that is either a modest-sized cat; or an overfed rat.

Either way, it gave the birds a fright.

---

Night falls.

So too, do droppings.

The pigeons are perched on beams above the stage.

They let loose on the ‘star’ below.

The man whom they blessed with this ‘luck’ did not get angry; just grunted; no words such as ‘fuck.’

He simply shifts spots till he is out-of-range; then takes a deep breath and waits for the next day.
