Short Film Idea
EXT. NEIGHBOURHOOD STREET. DUSK.
A youngster walks to the supermarket. Their gaze is pointed at the phone in hand. The time is shown as 5.00pm.
They pass an elderly woman, who is in the process of taking out her bins.
The elderly lady moves at a sloth's pace.
Next, the youngin' passes a zebra crossing, where an elderly man using a walker-frame, aims to step onto the road. He is stopped in his tracks, after noticing his shoelace is loose. He too moves at a sloth's pace; bending over to tie a bow.
CUT TO.
INT. SUPERMARKET. DUSK.
The youngster enters the supermarket, tucks away their phone, and picks up a basket. They speedily pick some vegetables and a packet of noodles, before heading to the self-serve checkout.
CUT TO.
EXT. NEIGHBOURHOOD STREET. DUSK.
On the way back home, the young adult passes the same elderly folks from minutes before. Both are still in the process of finishing their activities; 'bins to curb' and 'crossing the road.'
CUT TO.
INT. YOUNGSTER'S HOME KITCHEN. DUSK.
Those fresh vegetables are chopped by speedy work from the youngster. They're tossed into the burning heat of a wok, and begin to wilt in no time. The kettle is flicked on. A toss of the wok. Noodles in a bowl, then drowned in the boiling kettle water.
CUT TO.
INT. ELDERLY LADY'S HOME KITCHEN. DUSK.
This lady's bench is covered with ingredients one could only assume will form a risotto. Slowly, she begins to dice up a carrot.
CUT TO.
EXT. NEIGHBOURHOOD STREET. DUSK
The elderly man is about three steps across the road, when he realises he's dropped his hanky back on the footpath. He slowly turns around and heads back to get it.
CUT TO.
INT. YOUNGSTER'S HOME KITCHEN. DUSK.
The young adult sits on their kitchen benchtop, scoffing down the stir-fry just prepared.
CUT TO.
INT. ELDERLY LADY'S HOME KITCHEN. DUSK.
The elderly lady has only managed to complete the cutting of that one carrot. She pushes the pile aside with her knife, then brings an onion into the action.
CUT TO.
INT. YOUNGSTER'S HOME KITCHEN. DUSK.
They rinse their empty bowl in the sink, then pull out their phone to check the time. It's 5.15pm.
CUT TO.
EXT. NEIGHBOURHOOD STREET. SUNSET.
The old man, with well-tied laces, takes his final step to reach the other side of the road; glowing in the setting sun.
